Genes

Some exciting genes expressed themselves yesterday and I just had to share. So, as we all know, Dave has a gift: the man can draw ( as I recall, many of you took a sudden interest when Dave began taking classes where nudes were involved...King's Cottage, anyone?). Anyway, yesterday Linda at 2 and 1/2 picked up a pen and drew this:

Innocuous enough, some might say. Here we see her first recognizable attempt at drawing a face, hair and a smile. She dubbed this self-portrait "happy Linda" which to be perfectly frank was a little disappointing considering the obvious smile, but perhaps subversion is in the not so distant future...

This one she did shortly after, still sticking within the family tree but this time, doing a portrait of Dave. Note the masculine jaw line she so aptly highlighted. I think she nailed the hair by the way:

Anyway, I was not there to witness this artistic unveiling yesterday, so today over some pancakes, I dared her to go at it again and show me her skills LIVE.

And this, my friends, is "Sad Linda":
She ventured into a profile representation here, alluding to a contrapposto stance and thus effectively revealing the advancement of her skills in just a matter of hours (remember, it took the Greeks centuries to do this people). And the expression-- oh the expression! Come to think of it, it also reminds me of that song, "sleep with one eye open, sleep with your pillow tight...."

Anyway, this is exciting, very exciting.

Oh and this one, I found when she was just doodling-- "Caterpillar"

Lucy, was not that impressed. In fact, she was rather disgusted by the amount of attention her sister was getting:

Lucy isn't a big fan of drawing, but she continues with her puzzles for hours and hours every day. She's really actually very good at them-- my favorite is how she says right before she places a piece down, " Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, here?" She says the "here" really fast and it is just hysterical.

Nice art, Linda, and nice art commentary, Liz! And, of course, nice puzzles, Lucy.

I think the picture of Dave is my fave.

Isn't it great how your kids can have such different talents from each other, and how fun it is to discover them. Your girls are lovely, Liz. I miss you. Are you coming to Utah anytime soon?
